One of the keys to building and developing your brand reputation is the ability to provide correct, up-to-date, and complete information to consumers and searchers who want to know more about your business.

That’s why it’s so important to claim your local business listings and review site profiles. This allows you to publish and update your information – business name, address, phone number, hours, etc. – in digital properties outside of your own website. Claiming will also enable you to assert ownership of your brand as well as respond to online reviews, comments, and customer feedback.

If you’re managing a business with multiple locations – say, dozens or hundreds or even thousands – then you probably don’t want to spend the rest of your life visiting all the relevant sites one by one and claiming your business listing in each of them.

This is where a company like Yext comes in. As a “digital presence management” solution, Yext lets you claim and control your business location listings across multiple sites, maps, apps, and directories. (Another well-known solution for cleaning up your listings is Moz Local, by the Seattle-based SEO software company.)

Yext + Citysearch Partnership

Recently, Yext partnered with online city guide Citysearch to power the listings displayed in the latter’s local search directory. Like Yelp and Google My Business, Citysearch also serves up online reviews and ratings of local businesses.

According to news reports, if you’re hoping to claim your business listing on Citysearch, you’ll now be redirected to Yext’s website, where this message appears:

“Yext has partnered with Citysearch to help you sync your listings online. Check out your custom scan report on this page to see how your business listings appear across the Internet. We can help you update your listings to make sure that your business is listed properly online.”

Previously, users were able to claim their Citysearch business listing with the help of another listing management company (Infogroup). According to Local Visibility System’s Phil Rozek, Citysearch still allows for this claiming method, despite its preference for Yext: “CityGrid (which owns Citysearch) is also fairly helpful if you call them at 800-611-4827 or email [email protected].”

Citysearch’s website also indicates that “you can correct information by unlocking or ‘claiming’ your business on the Citysearch profile page… You’ll need to verify that you own the business by entering a verification code that is sent to your business phone. Once claimed, you will have the opportunity to make edits and add content to your business profile page. If the phone number, address or other business information is incorrect you can contact Customer Service at [email protected].”
