Owners and managers can add video to Google My Business (GMB) to help their listing stand out in search results.

Google’s research showed that 50 percent of users will look at videos related to a product or service before they even visit the store. An even more shocking stat reveals that simply adding video can provide up to a 157 percent increase in organic traffic.

With a massive opportunity to gain more customers, adding video to a listing is a no-brainer. Here’s how to do it.

Add Video to Google My Business

Adding a video to a listing is only available through the GMB dashboard, which means that you need to have access to a GMB account. If you don’t have one, you can make one for a business by reading our quick guide.

The dashboard will show a list of sections on the left side. Click on the Photos section, which will then show all of the images uploaded on the listing. A “+” icon will appear on the top-right corner of the page. Click on that icon to upload a video file.

There are, however, some restrictions for videos. Specifically, they have to be 30 seconds or less and have a maximum file size of 100 MB. The video must also have a minimum resolution of 720p.

The upload process might be quick, but it could take up to 24 hours for the video to appear on the public listing page.

GMB users aren’t the only ones allowed to add videos of their business. Customers can also record their own video and add it to a listing. If there is wrong or inappropriate content in a customer video, GMB users can flag it so that Google can review the video in question.

Best Practices for a Google Business Video

The 30-second limit on GMB videos means that they should be more than just your average clip. They need to quickly capture and hold a customer’s attention. It needs to be compelling and unique while also showcasing a business’ offerings.

Put it another way: Show, don’t tell. Instead of using the video to tell customers about products or services, show it in action.

Those in the restaurant business might show a quick time-lapse of food preparation while a closing store can show off its expansive lineup. Product-based businesses can benefit greatly from a well-produced video package.

In fact, product videos can increase purchases by 144 percent.

Get Customers By Adding Video to Google My Business

Research shows that 25 percent of Google searches include one piece of video. By implementing video in a listing, a business can take advantage of the brand new feature. The popularity of video content doesn’t show signs of slowing down so it’s best to get in on the action while it’s still early.

However, adding video isn’t the only way to climb the online search rankings. By taking advantage of other factors – such as citations, a detailed GMB page, and longer Google reviews – a listing can boost its online presence.
