A few months ago, there was a tremendous amount of buzz being generated in the online travel industry, around an upcoming self-service platform by TripAdvisor called TripConnect.

Last week, the online travel reviews site finally announced the launch of this new service, which is designed to allow TripAdvisor’s Business Listings subscribers to participate in the site’s hotel price comparison engine and drive bookings directly to their property’s website.

“We are delighted to bring to market a service that fills a need for the hoteliers in the industry,” said Jean-Charles Lacoste, Vice President of Direct Connect Solutions at TripAdvisor. “It’s a unique way we can use technology to level the travel accommodation landscape, placing small and independent properties on an equal footing with large hotels and Online Travel Agencies (OTAs). Clearly, TripConnect is fulfilling a need, as evidenced by the significant number of Internet booking engines working with us to provide this platform to their customers. TripConnect is designed to help independent owners drive more direct bookings and increase revenues, as well as (collect) more reviews and track performance.”

As many as 210 Internet booking engines signed up for TripConnect ahead of its launch. According to TripAdvisor, the service will enable business owners to bid for the site’s visitor traffic (over 260 million unique monthly) while also letting travelers click directly through to the property’s own website to make a booking. Independent hotels and B&B owners, in particular, can greatly benefit from TripConnect, because the cost-per-click service lets them place bids that fit their own budget requirements.
